Michael R. McAlevey is senior vice president and chief legal officer for Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services. Prior to joining HCA Healthcare in 2022, McAlevey was with General Electric Company for 19 years, serving in multiple senior leadership positions. His most recent role at GE was as the global General Counsel and Business Development leader for GE Healthcare, based in Chicago, IL. Prior to GE Healthcare, McAlevey served as global General Counsel and Business Development leader for GE Aviation, based in Cincinnati, OH. He started his GE career in 2003 as GE’s chief corporate, securities and governance counsel. McAlevey has led very large legal and business development departments, with significant experience in legal, investigative and compliance matters and deal identification, negotiation and execution.
Before joining GE, McAlevey served as Deputy Director of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Corporation Finance from 1998 to 2002. Prior to that, he was a partner with Alston & Bird, LLP from 1990 to 1998 and an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center from 1999 to 2002.
McAlevey has a bachelor’s degree from Washington & Lee University, where he currently serves as chairman of the board of trustees. He received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Following law school, McAlevey served as a law clerk to the Honorable Emmett R. Cox, United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
