HCA (NYSE: HCA) today announced the appointment of Margaret G. Lewis as President of HCA's Central Atlantic Division in Richmond, Va. effective immediately. She replaces Phillip Robinson, who recently stepped down for health reasons.
In her new position, Lewis will have operational responsibility for 18 hospitals and six outpatient surgery centers in Virginia, West Virginia and New Hampshire. She was previously Chief Executive Officer of HCA's CJW Medical Center, a two-campus acute-care hospital consisting of the 466-bed Chippenham campus in Richmond and the 282-bed Johnston-Willis campus in Chesterfield County.
In her new role, Lewis will report to Charlie Evans, President of HCA's Eastern Group. "Margaret is a strong leader who has a proven record of increasing responsibility," said Evans. "Her blend of operational skills and clinical background uniquely prepare her for this important position."
Lewis, 50, began her career with HCA in 1978 at Chippenham Medical Center. She held several positions in nursing management and quality management before becoming Chief Nursing Officer of HCA's Richmond Division in 1997. Lewis became CJW's Chief Operating Officer in 1998 and Chief Executive Officer in 2001.
Lewis is a registered nurse and a diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives. She earned an associate degree in nursing from John Tyler Community College in Chester, Virginia; a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond; and a master of business administration degree from Averett college in Danville, Virginia.
Lewis is a member of the board of directors of Richmond 2007, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and the John Tyler Community College Foundation. She is also a member of the executive committee of Richmond Renaissance and on the City of Richmond -- Mayor's Education Initiative Committee.
