Jeff E. Cohen, Senior Vice President - Government Relations

Jeff Cohen is senior vice president, government relations for HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services. Cohen manages global government affairs for HCA Healthcare.



Prior to joining HCA Healthcare, Cohen spent 20 years with the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH), the trade association representing the investor-owned hospital industry. As executive vice president, public affairs, Cohen managed all advocacy, public affairs and communications for the association. In this role, he worked closely with Fortune 500 and privately-held member companies and acted as chief lobbyist for the association.



While with the FAH, Cohen played a leading role in promoting expanded access and healthcare coverage, and has led numerous successful efforts to preserve funding for hospital care. Other notable achievements include working to enact legislation that prohibits self-referral to physician owned hospitals; requiring the VA to reimburse hospitals promptly; authorizing the Secretary of HHS to extend the waiver of the EMTALA in the case of a pandemic; among many others.



Prior to joining the FAH in December 1999, Cohen served as senior legislative assistant to former Rep. Karen L. Thurman (D-FL), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and its Subcommittee on Health. From 1995-1999, he advised Rep. Thurman on health policy matters addressed by the Subcommittee, specializing in Medicare access and Medicare payment issues.



Cohen has been recognized by The Hill newspaper as one of the “top lobbyists” in the hospital industry. He received a Masters of Arts degree in Latin American studies from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Trinity University.
