Richard A. Hammett, President - Atlantic Group

Richard A. Hammett is president of the Atlantic Group of Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services.  Hammett’s responsibilities include the oversight of 68 hospitals and more than 63,000 colleagues across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Missouri and Kansas. 


Prior to his current role, Hammett served as president of HCA Healthcare North Florida Division, comprising of 15 hospitals and more than 120 additional sites of care.  Prior to joining the North Florida Division, Hammett served as CEO of HCA Healthcare’s Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, having originally moved to the Denver area to become the CEO of HCA Healthcare’s Medical Center of Aurora.  Hammett began his career at HCA Healthcare with St. David’s Healthcare in Austin, Texas, eventually serving as Chief Operating Officer at St. David’s Medical Center.


Hammett began his healthcare career with Baptist Health System of East Tennessee serving in various executive roles.  Hammett holds a BS from the University of Alabama and a Master’s degree in Health Administration and Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
