NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HCA (NYSE:HCA) today announced that James C. Scoggin, Jr., President of the company’s North Texas Division, will retire effective October 1, 2013. Erol R. Scoggin, 55, is a 26-year veteran of HCA who has served as President of the North Texas Division, which includes 14 hospitals in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Oklahoma City markets, since 2006. The 33-year healthcare industry veteran joined HCA when the company established a joint venture with the Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio.

“Jim has been both a colleague and an outstanding leader for many years. He has led a diverse group of facilities that achieved numerous quality milestones and strong growth,” said Jon Foster, President of HCA’s American Group. “We will miss him greatly, and we wish him well in retirement.”

A 20-year HCA and hospital industry veteran, Akdamar, 46, has served as CEO of 677-bed Medical City Dallas Hospital, HCA’s largest hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, since 2010. Prior to that, he was CEO of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas. Akdamar began his career with HCA in 1993 with Rapides Regional Medical Center.

In 2006, Akdamar was recognized as a rising young star in healthcare management when he was named a Modern Healthcare “Up & Comer.” He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and he serves as a member of the Texas Hospital Association’s Council on Policy Development.

“Erol is a dynamic leader and a seasoned veteran of HCA,” said Foster. “His familiarity with both the market and HCA’s culture will serve him well as he continues to build on our North Texas Division’s strong reputation for clinical quality and operational excellence.”

HCA also announced the retirement of North Texas Division Chief Financial Officer Thomas O. Corley, 59, effective December 31, 2013. During his 34-year career with HCA, Corley served in a number of hospital and multi-facility leadership positions. Searches for a replacement for Corley and a new CEO of Medical City Dallas Hospital are underway.
