HCA (NYSE:HCA) today announced the appointment of Tim McManus as
president of HCA’s Capital Division, effective August 1, 2016. McManus
replaces Rob Carrel who recently announced his retirement after a nearly
25-year career with HCA. As Capital Division president, McManus will
have responsibility for 18 hospital campuses in Virginia, New Hampshire,
Kentucky and Indiana.
After serving as chief operating officer of hospitals in California,
Alabama and Mississippi, McManus joined HCA in 2007 as chief executive
officer of HCA’s Garden Park Medical Center in Gulfport, Miss. He was
president of HCA’s Northern Virginia market for two years before
becoming chief executive officer of Chippenham and Johnston-Willis
Medical Center (CJW), a 758-bed, two-campus health system in Richmond
Virginia, in 2012. While at CJW, McManus oversaw a successful conversion
to a Level 2 Trauma center, significant growth and marked improvement in
quality and patient satisfaction scores as well as significant
improvements in employee engagement and satisfaction scores.
“Tim is a skilled leader and talented hospital operator who is familiar
with the HCA culture as well as communities served by the Capital
Division,” said Chuck Hall, president of HCA’s National Group. “His
experience and proven ability to lead initiatives to ensure we are
meeting the healthcare needs of our communities will serve him well as
he continues to build on the Capital Division’s reputation for clinical
quality and service excellence.”
McManus earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Tulane University
and a Master of Health Services in Health Finance and Management at
Johns Hopkins University, School of Public Health, in Baltimore, MD. He
is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. McManus
has a strong history of community service and is an active member of the
Board of Directors for the Greater Richmond American Heart Association,
the John Tyler Community College Foundation, Richmond Chamber of
Commerce, Federation of American Hospitals and Virginia Health
Information.
Carrel held several executive positions during his nearly 25-year career
with HCA, where he started as a financial analyst at Aventura Hospital
and Medical Center in 1991. Over the course of his career, he was the
CFO at Pembroke Pines Hospital, Columbia Hospital (now called JFK
Medical Center North Campus) and Westside Regional Medical Center,
market CFO in Ft. Myers, CFO and then CEO of the Capital Division, a
position he held the last three years.
“Rob is an exceptional and insightful leader with whom I have had the
privilege of working closely throughout the majority of his professional
life,” said Hall. “We appreciate his many contributions to HCA, and we
wish him the very best in the next phase of his life.”
